THE THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS SUBJECT
I’ve learned more in presentations in taking up this subject the IT 19(Technical Presentation Skills in IT). The tips in making a good presentation, the do’s and don’ts in preparing the slides, the guides to technical presentations and the things that will go wrong in a presentation. And also in advertising, multi-media, film making and media research.
In order to make a good presentation slides, you must follow the several tips of it. First, keep it simple. The key word for this is KISS- keeps it short and simple. The slides must be simple and understandable and it is never meant to be a “star of the show”. Then avoid using Microsoft templates, use high quality graphics including photographs, use object builds and slides transitions judiciously, synchronize your speaking with the builds and transitions, use video and audio when appropriate and the last is limit your ideas to one main idea per slide. In preparing the slides there are do’s and the don’ts should be consider. Provide clear explanation of all technical terms, avoid using complete sentences, it must the important points should be written in the slides and use only short phrases. Follow the “6 * 6” rule, use about six words per line and six lines per slide excluding the title. Always use a font large enough, the appropriate font size. Keep a consistent look throughout your presentation and use short and strong statements. The technical presentations have guidelines to follow. The presenter must identify her purposes in presenting, her organization, visual aids and the delivery and style. And also there are things that will go wrong in a presentation. The following: sounds equipment fails, your slides aren’t available, huge room few attendance, the neigh Sayers or the hecklers, interruption, the non present In or Out audience member, the changing in venue, they changed the length of the presentation, a different audience and formal presentation to informal presentation or vice versa. And the things that always remember of the presenters’. Cowboy styles are not welcome, so come prepared. Double check your slides, the spelling, the grammar, the company logos and the contact info. You must know your audience, be interesting, be engaging and be yourself. And most of all have fun.
In advertising, we focus on the digital advertising, the television advertising or the music advertising, it is a commercial on the television that is generally considered the most effective mass market advertising format. The infomercial, it is a long format television commercial that typically five minutes or longer. The radio advertising, a form of advertisement via the medium is radio. It broadcast as radio waves to the air. The online advertising where the promotion that uses the internet and the World Wide Web for the expressed purposed of delivering market messages to attract customers. And the product advertising, it is when the product or the brand is embedded in entertainment and media. We also discuss lightly the physical advertising, the press advertising, it describes in a printed medium such as newspapers, magazine, or trade journal. The billboards or digital screens, it is the large structures that located in the public places which display advertisements to passing and motorists. The in-store advertising, it is any advertisement that placed in a retail store. And the last is the celebrity branding, where focuses upon using celebrity power, fame, money, popularity to gain recognition for their products and promote specific stores or products. It also has the future in advertising, the global advertising. Where it has five major stages of development: the domestic, export, international, multi-national and global. The diversification, new technology, advertising education, advertising research and the evidence-based advertising. All of these kind of advertising, we focus on infomercial. The multimedia is the next on the line. It is combination of content forms and composes of audio, video, text, pictures and graphics. It has the usages of the multimedia, the creative industries which have two types the commercial and entertainment and the fine arts. The education, journalism, engineering, industry, mathematical and scientific research, medicine and the document imaging. I’ve also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of multimedia.
Then the media research, its all about the concepts which the verbal abstraction and explicit description of the meaning. It consists of three parts the meaning analysis, operational definition and operational procedures. It has also the concepts explication report the focal concept, literature research, meaning analysis, empirical (operational) definition and the operational procedure.
And the last is the filmmaking, where it is use the both film and video as a medium. Film production occurs in five stages, first is the development where the script is written and drafted into a workable blueprint for the film. Second is the pre-production, the preparations are made for the shoot. In which the cast and crew are hired, location are selected and the set being built. Then the third is production, where the raw elements for the finished film are recorded. The forth is post-production, the film is edited. And the last but not the list, the fifth is the sales and distribution, where the film is screened for potential buyers or distributors and reaches into the cinema or in the home media audience.
It was fun to be the one of the students of this subject. It has many memories that being built in making all those activities, reports and projects. The most memorable when we make our documentary film, the bonding is being built in getting those videos and interviews. Until in the editing, it was worth remembering.
I had learned a lot in enrolling this subject. Especially in making a film and making a blog.
